Carol Nelson - Portfolio of Works

My abstract work is usually done in acrylic and often with mixed media materials such as rice paper, metals, metal foils, and texture mediums. These paintings often take on a geologic appearance, so I like to call them "geologic abstracts."

Poppies are my favorite flower and you'll find a lot of them here. Many of my floral paintings have a good deal of surface texture. Many also contain collage materials for visual interest.

The subject matter of these small paintings is very diverse, ranging from animals to still lifes. Their small size makes them very affordable. Some are framed with black shadow box, some are painted on gallery wrap (1.5 inch deep) canvas, and some on masonite panel, unframed.

Most paintings in this collection feature the beauty of Colorado and the West.

Most of the paintings in this collection originated in my 100 PORTRAITS IN 100 DAYS project. Each portrait is done in fauvist style, so vibrant colors and strong brushwork is a predominant feature.
